A mobile application is more commonly known by its abbreviation, app. A mobile app is a software application designed to run on mobile devices (smartphones, tablets, etc). Unlike websites that are available via any web browser (e.g. Firefox, Safari, Google Chrome, Internet Explorer) regardless of device, an app can only be uploaded onto and used on a compatible device.
Initially the proposal was for LAWA to be an app, but because the LAWNZ website was Flash based (Flash content does not display on many mobile devices) it was agreed that a replacement website was a priority, but an app would be a useful addition, adding value for mobile users.
